关于潘尼朵尼的来源,有好几种说法。比较“浪漫”的说法,是在15世纪末的米兰,一名贵族在追求面包师女儿时研发了藏有酒渍果干的面包,后来这种面包大获好评,成为意大利家家户户在圣诞节必吃的应景食品。

有人将潘尼朵尼喻为世界上最难做的面包,制作起来至少需要三天。最具挑战的部分是照料天然酵母,其次是发酵过程,必须关注每个细节,如温度、湿度和时间。
